Most first generation EMD units ran long hood forward , Norfolk and western ran short hood forward and a few others but the majority of GP7 or 9 units were long hood forward. just changing the motor leads will change the direction of travel but not the headlights. they did not turn diesels and if it was by itself you just ran it the way it was.

Well I got it sorted. Mine is the EMD demo scheme no. 100 just like in the builder’s photo. Lionel did a gorgeous job on the decoration. Looks just like the builders photo. Even has the letter ‘F’ at the front of the long hood, although Lionel chose to ignore this.

I did dig in and made all changes at the motherboard. Swapped red/black for direction, red/blue for headlights, and swapped the coil coupler leads between their respective jacks. Now to search my dry transfers and decals for appropriate letter ‘F’s ! ! !
