I know Sunset offers models of the Gresley A4 (the boneyard section of their website lists one of each still available), but am curious if anyone else has made, hopefully, cast, not brass (and definately not tinplate) three-rail AC 1:43 or 1:48 models of the Gresley A3 (non-streamlined) andsteamlined A4 Pacifics and the Mallard?

Thanks John! It looks beautiful. I couldn't find any photos outside eBay UK.
You're welcome, Doug. That is part of the Coronation Special set issued in 2000. At that time, Weaver was the NA distributor, and I bought it through them.
By the way, Trains Hoover has some Darstaed A3's; I don't know if they are diecast. http://www.trainshoover.com/products/locomotives/#a3
I was wondering if there are any toys or plastic models of this engine available in roughly 1/50 to 1/43 scale that one could use to make up a "Spencer" model from the Thomas the tank engine series??
The Brass ones are a bit pricy.

Don't know why Lionel doesn't make "Spencer" and all the others that Bachmann has available in H0. And now Bachmann is producing "Thomas," "James," and "Percy" in G. Wonder if that's the old Lionel Large Scale tooling?
The 6 extant pacifics will be in the UK for the 75th aniv. of MALLARD's 126 mph speed run. One from the US and one from Canada are going.
Also, one A4 was ALMOST the Hogwarts engine. I think J K Rowling nixed the idea!
Now, that would be worth going to. I have to get information on that.
Edit: I did a little digging. Here is the website.

There are direct flights from Raleigh-Durham International to Gatwick. I'm thinking my wife and I might have to go see this.
And, its not all surviving Pacifics, its only all six surviving A4s (all of course, Pacifics) , apparently, including the two now in Canada.
Those two North American A4 Pacifics have been on the s.s. Atlantic Conveyor for the last few days, and were scheduled to make port at Liverpool this morning. They are #60008 "Dwight D. Eisenhower", from The National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI, and #60010 "Dominion of Canada", which has been residing at a museum in Canada. The event next year at York, Yorkshire, UK, is on my bucket list. We shall see.
Is Ducky from NCIS going? (Dr. Mallard. He did have a, I think, an OO model of the A4 in his lab once.)
Just got my October 2012 30 page news letter from Darstaed and they will be making a new A4 with all new tooling & a new heavy duty gearbox from the forthcoming Tornado.
The prices will be held @ £685.

I have seen some stuff from Allen (the O guage guy) and TrainsHoover about that. I think it is tinplate, though. I don't do tinplate on my layout: I have one tinplate Darstead (LNER 2-6-2) that is beautiful - a real work of art - but it is on display in a case in my office at work.
I'm actually thinking of making my own Mallard body - it's a simple shape and I have two books on it with detailed drawings, dimensions, and gobs of photos. It should not be that difficult to do well, using a 1:48 Pacific chassis from [who knows what?], if I can find one close to the right length with 80" drivers.
Lee I think you`ll find it`s die cast like the new Tornado loco they are making.
Dave may chime in and let us know for sure.

James, does that price include V.A.T.? If so, then that should be a very attractive price for US buyers, as they can take 20% off straight away.
TrainsHoover is asking $895 for the Castle class Darstead locos. I would think these would be in that range when they offer them, perhaps, inevitably, a bit more . . .

That's what it says in the newsletter. And some Tornado castings are shown on the following pages.
In a sense, the Hall, Castle, and A4's, because of their body shapes, could be modeled TIN and SCALE at the same time!
I've been asked my a muggle if my Lionel Hall HWX was tin and pre war!
