Yes, you can. I have one on my passenger train main line which I use to control conventional engines and it works very well, if you don’t mind staying by the transformer. 😉
Also can I run my Cab 2 as well as conventional with the GW 180 and no power master
Yes, but generally, not at the same time on the same track because the Cab 2 engines call for 18 volts and conventional engines will be flying off the track at that voltage.
Yes of course I just wanted to eliminate the power master Plus my CD80 keeps burning out from track shortages Lionel has replaced it twice already. I think the gw180 has a better fuse protection
Since I already have the 180 brick I wonder if I can buy just the controller
