I saw post saying that the color of the "lite" products is dependent on the thickness of the application. I have a vertical face I want white before painting with acrylics. The thickness will vary with the shape of the face. How can I insure a consistent white?

The gypsolite I used dried gray in color. There were a few areas that turned white and these areas were a little powdery. I painted exery thing with Brown paine that sealed the gypsolite.
One more vote here for a good primer coat of flat latex house paint. Make it white if you want all color to be from acrylic washes, or use a light tan or light gray depending on the basic color desired. Then add the acrylics to vary the colors.
Besides sealing it, the primer coat will also insure that all areas will absorb color evenly.
