For those who prefer a handheld controller over a smart device app, the BlueRail Trains app will connect with a MFI IOS handheld game controller which can be easily programmed. Details are on youtube.

I will definitely be looking into this. Thanks for posting.
My kids must have a dozen different controllers. I'll bet one of them works.
Have fun.

Very interesting! Google search shows a couple of different devices, with distinct form factors. If you have something that definitely works, please post a pic. Thanks!!
The MFi controller in the video is a SteelSeriesStratusXL (($60.00). Here is the how to do it video.
Thanks for sharing, Bob. That is very cool! I know my son would take to it like a duck to water. This may have pushed me over the edge to get a Bluerail board to try out. I'm happy with conventional, but my kids enjoy the LC app and LC controllers and such. Who am I kidding? I enjoy them, too!
May I suggest adding to the thread title: Handheld Controller for Bluerail Trains - Using X Box and/or PS4 MFi controllers
"X Box" and "PS4" brand names will attract the attention of the "kids" in the crowd.
They are "x-box style" controllers, but the controllers that work with BlueRail have to have the word "iOS" in the description. These kind of controllers come in Android, iOS, Windows, X-box and PS-4 varieties. If you are going to get a controller, make sure it says it supports iOS.
The designation specified by Apple for compatible devices is MFi, short for Made For iOS. It appears that there are a lot of eligible devices. This could get interesting.
This is a map of the MFi controller functions when connected to the BlueRail app.
