Think this would be so cool, but it would take more space then I have available. Still think it would be a center piece of conversation on one of those "big" layouts, like in NJ. LOL!

Serious thoughts toward it!!! I have a 1/48 B-25 model from my work at Accurate Miniatures Co. But it is still a big plane! Not difficult to build....space is another story! There is one made with a B-17 too......maybe a B-29???
That has been on my "to do" list. Have the plane, the idea, just waiting for the right time. My problem is I build too many gas stations, there will never be waiting at the pump on my layout to say the least.
Paul - That is a really cool looking station! Do you have any idea where it was or is located? It looks like something one would see on the old Route 66.

There was a restaurant just north of Phila that had an old bomber AC build in as part of the building. Remember it as a kid. G
No but I'be been there and interviewed the owner that flew it there. Amazing story. Don
It's just outside Portland. Don

Just a thought...
It might take only half the space...if you cut it lengthwise through the center of the fuselage, put it against a background mirror. Positioned to minimize unwanted reflections...as 'the master', John Allen, taught us years ago and since replicated by others...it could, indeed be a great scenic vignette!

I f someone were to take on this project, it would be a good example of making a standout scene on a layout. You just couldn't miss this one. Love to see someone do it.
As mentioned above, I already have too many gas stations, and probably will find
more that I can't pass up, if I find more defunct regional oil company ones, that take less real estate.
I don't think I would do this station as a B-17 is very large in "O" scale. Maybe something like this.

I remember a constellation as a restaurant in North Philly, I wonder what happened to it?

That would be cool. I've got an old 1/48 scale B-17 sitting in the garage. The wingspan is 26", takes up a lot of real estate.
This one would take up less room, but planes are cool:
