Gargraves looks nice and matches Ross switches, but I wouldn't jump into that as a beginner.  It takes some work and is mostly permanent.  Scaletrax looks nice but does not have much variety in switches.   Ross has the largest variety of switches, probably followed by Lionel Fastrack.

 

It is tempting to start with plans for a big & elaborate layout, but many people have bitten off more then they can chew and they get discouraged.

 

Better to start small & simple, and expand as you learn.

The Scaletrax, Atlas, and Realtrax also have a dark center rail.

 

Incidentally, Fastrack had a dark center rail when it first came out, but it was discontinued because it showed up too much on the light colored base.  If you weather the 2 outer rails, the center rail sort of disappears against the ballast base.
