Hi. I am planning on building a new layout (20 x 7). I have plywood and homasote 2 x 4 contruction with plywood. Is screwing the plywood down okay? Also, planning on gluing the homasote down on top of the plywood. Is this okay. Any track (3 rail) suggestions for running 6 loops with no switches including hells gate bridge/conventional mode would be appreciated. Thank you.

I used a couple roofing nails to hold mine to the plywood on a n-scale layout. Have you looked at the extruded foam? (The pink stuff, blue stuff or green stuff depending on the store you shop?

I screwed my plywood to wood sub structure. I just predrilled everything so screw would go in easier. I used decking screws.
I did not use homasote, so I have no idea what to advise on using screws through that.
My sound deadening material are those rubber floor mats that connect togehter like a puzzle - most places sell as floor covering for a gym or work area. So yes, my landscape is black, but I am fine with that. I did not screw down the sound barrier/mats. They are just on top of the plywood.
At my HO or N time I was using homasote glue on plywood, I was using scrap pieces of plywood that I place over the homasote and screw it with screw long enough to reach the plywood under, when the glue was dry, I remove the screw and the scrap pieces of plywood.
I use plywood and homasote, I use screws to fasten the homasote.
The advantage to screws is you want easy seperation for future changes.
