Thinking about using the perimeter as a train layout, circle back both ends, and using the closet as well. I need a good reason for the woman who tolerates me.
I know, this is beautiful, right!?

Try this: "Actually, it IS a hole-in-the-wall. I'm doing a true to prototype model based on the area of the U.S. where the 19th century Hole-In-The-Wall gang of train robbers (Butch Cassidy and Sundance) operated!"
How bout, it's my house too, I live here, now go make me a sammich.
I love those old tom and jerry cartoons
It is a magic portal to a fun time.
...it's a portal to another dimension.
...it's a portal that transports me to a different time and place.
...it's an alligator hole; stick your hand inside and see what happens.
A gateway to paradise........
Tunnel of love????
I finish the statement by saying:
Of course it's a hole in the wall, in fact, I put it there, and when I did, my then 10 year old daughter (she's now 34) called out: "Mommy, Mommy, he did it, Daddy just tunneled through the wall and is devaluing the house."
Oh what fun that was. LOL, Arnold

Great Tom and Jerry cartoon!
But all my train friends are allowed to put holes in their walls!
WOW, I knew that there were great ideas, and tracks through walls. Ya'll are awesome (now where is the saw) oh, and plan, I will need to show her a plan. Life is so good
Hey Miggy,
Don't feel bad, I got a 4 holer. Tell her you are utilizing the space you have been allotted. Got to work with the space you have...

"It is a hole?"
"No my dear...it is a window into yesterday, then the approaching whistle, smoke and steam...and so giant locomotives of iron and fire roamed the land . And the country climbed aboard ; and they became gone..."
Its not a hole. Its a "Magic layout expander."

...it's a glimpse into the future. If you look inside, you'll see my wife leaving me.
@Brad Trout posted:"It IS a hole in the wall, but Honey, LOOK, everyone has them! Just look at the OGR forum!"
Yeah, that'll work.
"B.b.b.but mom, all the other kids have slingshots and air rifles."
It's not a hole...it has always been the way the track was supposed to run, the carpenter screwed up and put a wall there.

And you can add: "Those guys on the Forum have holes in their heads to match the holes in their walls they run their trains through."

Music to the ears of a divorce lawyer like me.
Just kidding, I have a real estate broker friend in his 40s who has been divorced twice and has a great sense of humor. He told me: "Arnold, what's wrong with you. You're a divorce lawyer, have been married for 42 years and never been divorced, you don't believe in your own product." Arnold
But all my friends have a Red Rider BB Gun! 😂😂
Go for it Miggy. It's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

It will get those pesky trains and track off the living room rug!!
Am ethereal suggestion ...
"The hole in the wall is a metaphor that suggests every day our ultimate entry to heaven where we'll arrive at the Grand Celestial Terminal at the end of the line - and be together for eternity."
Even her minister would say "Amen" to that.

CLASSIC!! <grin>
It's better than the alternative. You could put the track across the doorway of the laundry room and not make it lift out and have your wife duck under to do the laundry like I did ..... The kids loved it - they were small enough to walk underneath. My wife was less than enamored.

As accommodating as she generally is with my train thing, she didn’t seem to like this idea.
Open concept design
The hole is to funnel money into the closet - it will finally get those long asked for upgrades just like the ones on the California Closets TV ads - those adjustable white wire shelves, soft lighting, storage drawers, shoe racks, organizing aids, etc.

I love that gig.
In fact, I'm building it on the layout.
Uh Miggy? I think you're in a lot of trouble, my friend.
