Hi All,

I need help finding a Power Truck for a CNW H12-44 Engine (6-18876) that I am fixing for a club member.  The Truck Number is 610-8848-101.  I have googled the part number, searched all Train Parts Depots (including NW Lima Train Works which Lionel said should have the part).  The issue with the current truck is that the gear that meshes with the motor worm gear is stripped.

Any help would be appreciated.

It is not quite the same. The motor shaft/worm of the H12-44 is close to 1/4 inch and is double cut(?). The armature shaft of the NW2 is 3/16 and the worm is triple cut. Thus, a direct swamp of parts is not possible.

Here is a picture of armature shafts. On the left is the "normal" 3/16 inch shaft common to most of the AC universal motors. On the right is the armature shaft of what is in the H12-44. Notice it is quite a bit thicker.  Thus, one just cannot use the 623 parts in the H12-44.

The shaft size of the H12-44 is 0.2180 inch or 5.5372 mm. Somewhat an oddball size.

You are correct.

The 623 gear will not work in the H12. While similar in size, the 8848 gear has a different pitch in the cut.  The armature gear will chew it up. The H12 locomotive has it's own unique motor and axle gear. I have never seen the axle gear available from Lionel as a separate part, only in a whole truck assembly. You could probably use the 623 gear on the axle if you also changed the motor assembly to the 8501 motor. These are available. Lionel doesn't show the power truck at all, so this is going to be the only fix I know of, unless someone can custom cut a gear for you.
