OK so I now you Just Plug for most of my lighting but I have some old woodland scenic stuff I bought before that has "traditional wiring ."  And have wired a whole heck of a lot of my medium size layout.  So I have a farm scene and was wiring these lights.  First I went with the adapters to put it in my Just Plug Controllers and got no lights.  Changed the connectors still nada.  Thought it might not be drawing enough current as these aren't LEDs so plugged into my traditional accessory controllers and again nada checked the connectors it plugged into and worked fine with my street lights.  And then I noticed something to my horror.  These are metal wires, yes painted, but if there is a slight imperfection they could be shorting themselves.  Do I have to pull all that wiring apart in order to get this set to work (same issue with other wood post lamp)  Does anyone have any experience with this type wire?  It seems too sadistic to have to pull them apart but I am at a dead end.   Any help is appreciated.

The wires are enamel coated for insulation.  I assume you would have carefully scraped the coating from each wire's end to reveal the copper core...necessary for electrical continuity.  Typically those enamel coatings are quite tough, not easily breached unless subjected to a LOT of handling/vibration.

Also, the lights are LED's, I assume.  They require DC voltage, 3v MAX.  Also, LED's are polarity sensitive.  If you are uncertain of the polarity of your DC power source and the lights do not come on, switch the wire connections.

Finally, did the lights ever work properly since their purchase?  Bench testing an item like this can save a lot of 'downstream' aggravation and head-knocking in the under-layout grottos when installing.  (Weekly graduate of the School of Hardknocks, here.)

Others will chime in with suggestions, I'm sure.

KD Good news, bad news!  Good news I went back and scraped the wires and viola I had light.  Bad news only one of the two worked.  But my deepest appreciation.  I had tried all my usual go to's, swearing at it, threatening it, throwing it and then combinations (swearing at it and throwing it) with no success.  But your scraping suggestion worked.  I will say the one person that emailed me off line and suggested that my outlet may not have enough lubrication so I should wet my finger and place in the socket, well when I did it, I felt a surge of hopefulness but at that same moment the lights in the house went off. My wife checked the fuses after we realized we were the only house in the dark in the neighborhood.  But she told me to try it again and I did three more times with the same result. ;-)  So KD again my deepest thanks!
