This subject was originally posted 8/4/13 and and dealt with a vintage Marx Block Signal with 5 wiring posts. The submitter was seeking wiring assistance and a forum member submitted the attached diagram for assistance.

Marx automatic block signal

I used this diagram to wire an identical block signal and verified, via bench testing, that the signal is functional. I have not connected the signal to a layout, yet, because I am uncertain how the three track sections are separated. In the diagram, it appears there are "opens" on each of the three pieces of track at each break. That cannot be the case. Could someone take a look at the diagram and tell me where isolation pins need to be located?

Than you very much, swede

That's all accurate. I followed the two trains, and the circuit, and it works with three sections as delineated by fiber pins(center rail only) in the diagram.

A train(1) stops in the block section, no power, until the following engine enters the control section and trips the relay. That train(2) stops in the block section, no power, until the first train's(1) engine enters the control section and trips the relay again, coming to a stop in the block section after train (2) leaves.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

As long as there is very little or no current being drawn on the control section, the relay stays in the NC position and the block section is dead.
