A fair number of years ago I picked up a handful of small black rectangular plates at York. They are made of a thin, stiff, fibrous material that is sometimes used in transformers and other places as an insulative barrier. They are approximately 2 inches long and 1 inch wide.
I thought they'd come in handy for something or other, but from time to time I wonder about what they were made for. Pictures below.
