I have owned a Weaver U-25B for some years now. It is a good runner but has an irritating habit of "throwing" its tires. I am constantly putting new tires on it including the old trick of putting Walther's Goo on the wheel before installing the tires. That used to work well for Lionel locomotive but this engine is quite heavy and Goo or no Goo they start to come off. I believe the longest continous running time it has had is about twenty minutes before the tires start working their way off and rubbing against the side frames. This happens on Atlas, Gargraves, or Lionel tubular track. I called Weaver to see if I could purchase smooth wheelsets and eliminate the tired wheelsets, but Weaver, apparently doesnt stock spare wheelsets. Any suggestions?

How old are your tires over time they rot and stretch. If they are old they will not stay on. I have weaver U25B as well tires come off and put new ones on haven't come off since.
I buy all of my tires directly from Weaver and specify they should be for the U-25B!I don't think they make a smaller tire than the U-25 tire!
Tom your right they don't have smaller tires and another thing are you pulling a incline with your engine and how many cars are you pulling and also are you starting the engine off easy. I say this your engine could be spinning if it does that will stretch the tires and too your tires could be old from weaver to just thought of that.
A very reputable train repair guy told me to use super glue on tires. They won't come off, and the stuff is brittle enough that when the tire wears out or rots out and needs replacing, it's easy enough to scrape it out of the groove. I haven't tried it myself, I use silicone on problem tires, but the guy who told me is one of the best around.
There's an outfit on eBay that is selling black rubber reinforced super glue. That might be a good thing to try. I bought a bottle but I haven't had occasion to use it yet.
I would be concerned the Super Glue would attack the rubber tire! However, it is worth a try! I can tell you that Goo doesnt work. I have many locomotives in G, O, S, and ON30 and this is the only locomotive that has tire issues! Personally, the locomotive is heavy enough that it really doesnt need them--like my old Williams Fairbanks!
Dont bother with super glue, pig snoot or anything else. put on slighty smaller traction tire from MTH. thoughly clean the wheels with degreaser and you should not have any issues .
Contact Weaver and let them know your issue. They might send you a complimentary set pf tires. After all their steamers aren't cheap
I contacted Gary at Weaver Models. He said I should send him my trucks so he can see if there is a problem with them. I can't imagine what that might be, but I will send them to him tomorrow!
