And I'm not sure how "inaccurate" the Weaver cars were. Different car.

Oh, didn't realize these were 60. In that case, that would make them quite similar to the Atlas high cubes...

I take that back actually, the atlas ones are double door.

Those are Material Handling Cars (MHC).  Steven is referring to the newer 60-foot boxcars, which are a different design.

I wonder if Amtrak has sold off these cars? I thought I saw some with new markings on them, maybe a leasing co.?

Yep, I've seen probably about five in freight service.

It was really cool when Amtrak was running those beauties. What a shame the RR unions kicked up such a fuss over  a passenger service carrying mail.

All they managed to do was destroy a revenue  source for one of their customers, Amtrak. It was also a cheap way to move mail for the Post Office.

Oh well, such is life. People have what seems to be a built in mechanism to shoot ourselves in the foot for the allusion of a potential profit.  

I just wish we would all think about the ramifications of our actions before charging head long into obstructionism.

Talking Amtrak, I have a question. How many cars were normally pulled by one engine like a F40PH?

As far as I remember these cars where part of many passenger trains. I seen as many as five or six cars leaving the old 30th street station Post Office in Philly, behind a full contingent of passenger cars.

I think they usually ran between Philadelphia and Chicago. I really can't say for sure what the schedule was but they made a good looking train.

I was just wondering, cause I have 7 car passenger and the box cars would look cool behind them!

A single screamed I would guess usually pulled ten or less.

I took a train trip to Dallas back in 1999. On the return leg between Dallas and Fort Worth, the train had 13 of them behind the main passenger train (pulled by a pair of P42's) with an F40PH pushing. I'd never seen that many parcel cars on an Amtrak train before. They cut the parcel cars off in Fort Worth, then switched our sleeper out in San Antonio where it was put on the tail end of the westbound Sunset Limited.
