There was a post in 2015. I am having a problem copying the url. Google it.
most of mine melted when the coil heated up.
Thank you for the information
Anyone know if they worked well? I mean besides the melting issues did they derail a lot or give other problems as well? Picked up 3 some time ago in a box of CES I bought once. They look nice.
The cardboard backing will work if you leave it alone. These were made in the Chicago area. Nice alternative to the 072 switches by Lionel at the time. The electromagnetic switching was built-in within the bakelite switch housing.
Not sure you could actually go scale 100mph thru the switch.
Thank you Alen for your info maybe somebody can just draw out the diagram and send it that would be great.
Hi could not find it on Google no diagram for the hirth switches.
WIRING Diagram: as I recall it's similar to the LIONEL 042s because the throw switch is a momentary contact without the two lights and the Hirth acts as a locking relay.
The coil melt occurs when the switch is thrown and the Hirth doesn't completely lock in position so the coil remains powered.
Hi Alan is that lionel 042 switch the manual one or the one 042 radius one like the k line?
sorry LIONEL 022s not 042 I haven't worked with these for decades.
the Hirths are wired similarly though the wiring on the Hirths require some tracing. And if they are used, prior owners may have removed contacts or they have worn away. Thus, you should be using Ross turnouts with DZ switch machines.
