I would appreciate any "do it yourself" techniques used to efficiently and cost effectively illuminate multiple layout buildings.  Buildings such as Ameritowne, Korber, Downtown Deco, etc.

What types of components to light up multiple buildings in a downtown area?  What types of lights?  Are you wiring in resistors?  How are they harnessed in the buildings?  Are they running off track power?  In blocks so several buildings can be turned "on" and others kept "dark"?

Any insights appreciated!!

I'm moving to LEDs with all new installations as well. The ones I use come with resistors build in from Evans Designs.

I do a combination of rows of building hooked to a single switch and for other more interesting buildings I may have an individual on/off switch.

I also don't like all the lights on or off in a building but I haven't had a chance to work on that yet.

LEDs on eBay are all mostly 12v.  You probably have a box of wallwarts in your garage left over from old answering machines, or other old electronic devices that output 12 vdc.  I had several netgear router wallwarts from 10+ years ago they all put out 12vdc at 1 or more amps.  These will power 50-60 LEDs.    The strip LEDs are the most usefull and versatile,  you can get singles prewired with resistors.  I use both and use , warm white, yellow, red and bright white.  I also have some flashing LEDs.
