How Long Should It Take to Sync up a FlyerChief loco?

Batteries in the remote? Red light on the remote?

I would assume that it should sync up the same as a LionChief/+ remote... almost instantly. I think it likely you have something wrong, but as something to try first, make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote.  Otherwise a call to lionel is probably in order, or a return to the point of purchase.

LT: I run mine in command mode, so the first thing I do is switch "on" the remote. I then use my Legacy system to power up the track through my TPC unit. Once the track has power, the engine and remote sync up in no more than 5 seconds max..

You may have an issue with yours if it's taking up to three minutes.

The LC (not plus) doesn't run on conventional transformer control, that's one question I have.

The American Flyers (FlyerChiefs) do.

Interesting Marty, learn something every day!  I didn't realize they had that capability.

I'll check when I get out of work to be sure that the batteries are correctly inserted into the remote but the red light comes on and flashes while the loco beeps and beeps.  It has never actually gotten synched up, it just beeps until I get too impatient and give up on it.  The fact that the loco runs fine in transformer mode suggests that this locomotive may be making its way back for repairs soon.
