Does anyone know offhand how many motors are in the Product Number: 20-2185-1 Veranda Turbine from MTH?

Based on this in the manual, I'd say 4 motors. They're greasing gears on both front trucks.

i wish i can trade my railking imperial challenger # 30-1418-1 for one of those 4 motor,16 wheel drive and 8 traction tires monster !!

They're useful for wall trains, they have the traction to go straight up. 
Four motors ... hummmm ... wonder if there is enough room under the shell to put in a master board and a slave board to run the last 2 motors ....?
The new one in Proto 2 is also four motors, as I called MTH and got this confirmed.
The website is wrong on this one, and I suspect they got confused with their HO
scale Veranda...which is two motor/ two truck drive.
MTH says no Proto2 upgrade kit will be available for the Proto version 
But if there is room in the shell, no reason an ABA kit with slave wouldn't work I'm thinking. How is it going to know it's not in two physical places instead of one?
The new MTH Veranda should ship this month according to MTH shipping info.

Once it's shipped I wonder if a Proto2 upgrade kit with a board to drive 4 motors will become available?
I think they made a few limited run upgrade kits for the Veranda. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call.
Asked and Midge replied no kits for the Veranda nor any to backorder. I think Mike wants us to buy the new one instead of upgrading 
I had my UP Veranda Proto 1 upgraded to PS 2.0 and kept all motors so it is possible.
Mine had four motors. it was a good runner but the PS boards died . . . I also had the Lionel Veranda turbine that has only two motors but a diecast body so it weighs more and has better traction. It could actually pull harder. I figured one Veranda was enough so I didn't try to fix the MTH, - and I just disassembled it for parts. Four motors . . . wow!!! Great! They eventually powered four tractor trailers on my 'Streets.
You can upgrade the Veranda with a PS/2 upgrade kit and a slave kit.

There is not a specific kit for this since all boards in one unit, but a GT slave kit can be modified to do this. I can do this if your looking for some one to upgrade it. G
I opted for the new turbine and put the Proto1 on the shelf.
What would be the cost of upgrading this Proto1 to Proto2?
