Seeing Marty Fitzhenry's 32-year-old layout thread begs the question as to who here has the oldest layout. It's OK if it's been added on to over the years - we all make changes and additions. But does anyone have a layout that is much the same and older than 32 years?

My layout is eight years old this Christmas . . .
my layout is about 6 months old. I am 72 and I have to make up for lost time.
3 months - every year for the last 25. Does that make it 75?

6 years and counting (and it still isnt done!)
I inherited my grandfather's Std Gauge layout, July 1955. He started construction on it in 1924/25. My earliest memories are ones of he and I running his "Huge" trains around 1947. It was Christmas that year when I received my first Std Gauge train set. I still enjoy it to this day.
I also have a newer Std & O-Gauge layout that I started in 1989/90. My 20' X 30' trainroom is my domain filled with memories.
My layouts are nothing like Marty's masterpiece.
Mine is 25 years old. I remember visiting Marty's just before I started mine. Looking back his layout was less than 10 years old. It ran great then as it does now and was what I consider pretty much done. Back then I remember Marty had a Roanke sound box for whistles and horns as well as some other sounds. Boy the hobby has come a long way.
My current " temporary " 5x9 layout was recycled in 1996,saying it's recycled because my Step Granddad actually built the table sometime in the 1980's and had it in his basement. It had extra boards around the outside of the table with an "S" gauge loop, then the "O" gauge track was on the inside.
I removed the outside boards with the "S" gauge track and reconfigured the "O" gauge track to my likings.I've just never moved on and up to the big " permanent " layout I've got planned .So I'll just refer to it as my "temporary" layout.
I also have my layout from when I was a kid (1975 era) sitting propped up in my basement but not in service. I guess it's around 39 years old. Some assembly required .
I started my layout way back in December of 1974. It was a simple framed out 4x8 on sawhorses. Slowly but surely over the years it has expanded to its current 8x20 size. During the expansion years my layout took on several different geometric configurations until I finally settled on its current rectangular shape. The original 4x8 is still part of the layout. So, I guess my layout is just a little under 40 years of age. I've had a lot of with it over the years.
Started construction in 2006. It dragged on for a few years as I was commuting 1,100 miles.
Good Evening!
My layout is 2 4x8 sheets, in a L shape. It has been in it's present position for 47 years.
I built the building in 1999,and started layout in 2000,with first trackage at Xmas 2000,almost done.
I builted my 32X60 layout in 2002 and its 12 years old.
Thought provocative topic! I started my present layout in 1998, right after I disassembled my replica layout of the 1938 Lionel factory showroom layout. So, I guess that I've been at this one for some 16 years now. Not too long, but it is starting to get to where it looks like a model train layout once again.

My first was 1990 which I tore down in 2001 when my wife and I moved to our present address. I started one right away and after finishing it tore it down after realizing that I left valuable space untouched! So, after all is said, my current layout is 14 years old.
My layout is 7 years old, after modeling HO, than S, than going to O.
What is odd is I only have 50 percent of the track laid and really having a ball running trains.... and running trains and more trains....
Now when am I going to get around to that upper deck? Ah heck lets run some trains...
Eight years old. Started in March of 2006, with lots of stops and starts along the way.

Started about 9 years ago. Plan to finish it in the next 99 years (+/-).
Mine is about 11 years old, but for 6 of those years it was completely dormant.
30 x 14, 10 years old

Started mine about 3 years ago and it changes all the time.

While my ceiling shelf layout is a year and a half old. My Patio Pacific is a month old. However they both use some materials from a layout I started in 1987.
Started mine in 1998, so we are at 16 years and counting.
Most of my layout is 12 years old, but one section of it I built in 1975. It has been with me through 4 moves. I built it to be portable. This one section is 9.5ft x 5.5ft and I incorporated it into my current layout which measures 26ft x 16ft.

My current bedroom layout is only 5 months old. I got back into 3 rail trains in 1995 but I've moved 6 times since and always started a new layout. I'm 76 and I think this will be my last one. It's getting to hard to assemble lumber and do under table wiring.

If I would stop tearing it down and starting all over it would be about 8.
This current one is about half way done in a year and a half worth of pretty steady work. You can bet it won't be torn down anymore.

Sweet 16 here!!!!
It'll be 14 this September.
5 years !
Jan 2009: 6' x 8', 1 train
Jan 2014: 12' 12', plus an in-the-closet siding, way too many trains!
Whew!, I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
Projected Completion Date: ????????

ps. Walt, your math is off! 3 months x 25 years = 8.25 years old.... and we enjoy every new version!

Mine is 9 years old, but it underwent a major facelift/reconfiguration this past winter.
I agree with Marty "where does the time go?"

Mine is about 9 years old. It has seen stretches where a lot has gotten done in a fairly short period of time followed by long periods of inactivity. Hope to get on the ball and make some serious progress very soon.

Mine's only about 7 years old,but two of the 4 x 8 table tops were from my old layout, which makes them about 15 years old.

The train room was essentially finished in June 2010. I stenciled the date on a wall to commemorate the date. I'm about 40% on track laying. The control panel is complete. Power feeds to the track is 0%. Hopefully, I'll be running trains by the end of the year.
Of course, I said the same thing last year, and the year before that, and..... I will get this finished, but starting with 14' x 39' for a first permanent layout is just plain nuts.
