The Allegheny barely will and looks terrible. I would assume the Big Boy will as well since they are (?) built on the same frame/chassis I think. Would have to double check...
Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies and the picture link. I run quite a bit of 027 stuff still so its good to know it looks ok in that context. The ad picture was also usefull but it still doeasn't help me with overall size.

For instance how much smaller is it than say a Railking Bigboy as I have one of those so can easily do the maths for a comparison?

Detail wise it looks pretty good.

Thanks MIKE
Thanks for all the extra imput everyone. - Carguy that is a great video.

But with the greatest repect no-one has told me how how long, wide or high the model is nor how it compares to the Railking version which I have.

I already know its not scale etc,etc but your comments re the above would be most welcome.

CHEERS MIKE
Here is a pic to Hopefully give some good perspective on the size of various locomotives

In the Right column from Top down are:

Lionel Legacy Scale size Big Boy

Lionel LionMaster Big Boy

MTH Railking Big Boy (30-1129)

K Line Big Boy(Little Boy)

Lionel Lionmaster Challenger

Lionel Scale size AC-9

In the Left column, from the Topdown are:

Lionel Scale size H-7

Lionel Scale size Y-3

Lionel Lionmaster Challenger

Lionel Lionmaster Challenger

Lionel Lionmaster Challenger

Lionel Lionmaster Cab-Forward

I also have to agree, that in semi scale, the detail and proportions of the Lionel Lionmaster series beats the Railking, hands down, no comparison.

Doug
I have no way of measuring a K Line Big Boy but I can tell you that the Lionel Lionmaster locos are much bigger. Lionmaster locos generally are of scale width and height but are selectively shortened to enable smaller curves. A Lionel Lionmaster BigBoy will not do 027 curves, and may not be able to do 031. I have a Lionmaster Challenger and would not attempt to take it through an 031 switch into my yard. A Big Boy would be even longer.

The K Line engine is shorter, lower and narrower. Sitting next to a Lionmaster loco it will look like an S gauge engine even though its not.

Hope that helps

That said it will be listed in the For Sale forum soon, I been buying buying for scale Legacy and Vision like items of late and it doesn't fit in any longer

I'm ok with mine too. I usually have one engine running at a time anyway, so size in this case doesn't matter. When I bought this engine I also bought a string of the K-Line wooden yellow reefers which seem to go well size wise with this engine. For the price and level of detail you couldn't beat it for value.
Dick,

ALL Lionmaster locomotives are supposed to be 031 capable, no reason not to attempt any of them through an 031 switch, it should not be a problem. I have never tried it, but I have read of guys running Lionmaster Challengers and Big Boys on 027 curves, AND SWITCHES, I believe that it was with K-Line switches, which are supposed to have more clearence on the motor housings than Lionel 027 switches.

They both look wrong!

The O version in the above video is mine. Many of us dabble in the smaller size cars like Marx, Flyer 3/16 or the early K-Line made from Marx & Kusan molds. When the K-Line Big Boy came along, it gave us a great large articulated that looked decent with our smaller rolling stock. It is bigger & better than anything we had available. Still luvin mine.

Did you get the video done of yours from Perris?? I have not gotten around to the video I took yet.

I got the video downloaded into the desktop last night and I have a couple of good sequences that I need to loop together. Just gotta create some time to do so!
I don't know if this helps or not but when K-line first came out with their Big Boy a number of people thought that they where planing to get into S-Scale. This was only speculation on our part, based on no inside information at all.
In fact, I think we had a thread on the subject on these pages at the time.

I only bring this up so as to stress just how compressed the thing is. It is too small even for a Rail King, or traditional trains.
