I have installed hinged bridges before but never on an Atlas Truss Bridge. The Bridge seems a little weak where I would like to attach the hinge. If you have done this before please share your thoughts and some pictures.

On my friend's layout we mounted the Atlas bridge (double track version) to a piece of plywood, and mount the hinges to the wood and the benchwork (Maines). Rather than mounting the hinges on the end of the plywood we mounted them about of quarter of the way in (about 10 inches). This way we have a little counter weighting effect in order to make raising the bridge a little easier.

My website has Construction Photos and Drawings of my Atlas lift bridges done by my structural engineer husband. He designed and made custom hinges with lift assist.

Susan, what a great engineering design solution for a lift truss bridge. That could come in real handy as I move (i.e., rebuild) my layout in a new home. Thanks for sharing it. Nice work.
Susan- I love your work, but that design is not for me. I cannot fabricate my own hinges. If I could, I would consider your approach to the hinge and add a counterweight instead of the lifter.
