The plastic headlight lens of my Marx 999 sticks out a little beyond the cast-metal headlight housing itself, and I'd like to push it back in to make it flush, as intended. Trouble is, it won't budge.
Rather than risk damaging it, I tried pushing it out from the back, so I could file a bit off the edges to make it fit. But it still wouldn't move. I'm stumped. Has anyone ever replaced one of these lenses? If so, would you please share how you removed it?

Common issue, they are very tight and I also think the plastic may swell a bit as it ages. With the motor out. try taping the protrusion on the inside with a hammer. If all else fails, break it out and get a replacement.

Try putting a little Testors liquid plastic cement around the outside edge of the lens and the metal to dissolve the plastic a little and push it in. Try not to get cement on the ends of the lens.

Take the motor out first.
Tap the lens out from the inside of the boiler using a chop stick and a mallet.

That's how I tried pushing it out from the back.
It's stubborn.
