Hello everyone,

I just purchased the complete MTH WIFI ,ionel serial 2 set up to run my trains on my tablet through MTH DCS Wi-Fi. I can get the DCS trains running okay using the MTH Network but I cannot get the lionel tmcc, legacy ones running. I used the MTH Wi-Fi settings screen 2 set up one of my Lionel engines and the speed prompt will work but the engine will go nowhere. The horn, whistle and everything else will not work. In other words nothing will work. I contacted mth and they did not have anybody available to help me.

Can someone please run me through the proper setup. I hope it is just me not setting up properly.

Merry Christmas to all and thank you very much, Jerry

Jerry,

I’m running a near identical set up. The only addition is that I also have Lionel’s Wi-Fi module.

1) Do you have the Legacy base connected from its ‘U’ terminal to the outer rail?

2) Can you address/run the TMCC/Legacy engines via the Legacy remote?

3) You have got the LCS power supply connected and the Legacy serial port connected to the SER 2 via the LCS adapter?

Sorry I hit the wrong button. Again, I definitely have all my connections connected okay and have the correct cables. I do have grounding for my legacy station correct and when on I can run my legacy and TMCC trains from my legacy remote. When I go to run two trains on my tablet I can get the dials working but no reaction from the engine?

I purchased all the cables an equipment, MTH Wi-Fi, Lionel serial 2 and all the correct Chargers that came with the cables her the illustration in the MTH catalogs and the front pages that show the setup.

Do you think I can get help from Lionel cuz I can't get these things moving. My MTH Trains seemed to work fine but I haven't run him that much because I want to get everything set up correctly.

I say thanks for the help, Merry Christmas to all, Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I doubt Lionel will help you get this to run on DCS WiFi. Do the Legacy engines run with the DCS Remote? If not, then your issue has nothing to do with WiFi and starts with a cabling issue.

If they run with the DCS Remote, but not on the WiFi app, then you likely have a software issue. What versions of the TIU, WiFi, and WiFi app are you using? Is this IOS or Android? Do you have the latest operating system versions? If not, what versions are you on?

Merry Christmas!

George

Hi George,

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but I had a bad MTH Wi-Fi and Legacy station sent me a new one. I can seem to get one of my Lionel TMCC engines to run but on my screen of my Android tablet I get no miles per hour numbers just lines. It is working but keeps on working when I shut it down. Also the miles per hour needle will not let me  to stop trains at zero but I have to go to the negative side of the scale to stop the train. I'm not sure what is going on but it is at least working somewhat.

I can run my trains on my legacy remote with no problem. I am also wondering what the MTH ID numbers mean. Should I program in my Lionel ID numbers or try to program in the MTH numbers. The system was supposed to be plug in and go and it is getting to be out of control. Any help would be appreciated.

Best to you and your family, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Jerry

Hi again Jerry,

I don’t have this exact setup, so it’s hard to troubleshoot with you. You should have DCS version 6.1 on your TIU and Remote. A note on the MTH website says that DCS 6.1 only runs Legacy from the WiFi app and not the remote. The latest WiFi firmware is 1.10. Older WIUs did not have this version and need to be updated. The Google Play store will have the latest app. You need to go check that you have updated it. I don’t know the version number. Legacy was one of the last features MTH got working. I think you need to be on all the newest software versions for it to work. Hope you get it working.

Was this issue ever solved? as I have the same problem. Running wifi on it's own network. I can use MTH dcs wifi full version app on ipad with no issues running MTH trains and turning on devices. I can use lionel LCS app to throw switches through the connected ASC2 but iCab, LCS and MTH dcs apps do not see or work with any lionel trains. I can assume I have communication from both wifi units. But they are not talking to one another.  I have the lionel wifi connected to the base with proper cable and ps. I have the other cable from TIU to lionel ser2. All lights blink when given a command from the ipad. Software is up to date on TIU and legacy base.
