In this day of "ready made" buildings (that seem better than what you can do yourself), I had forgotten how relaxing   painting and building a kit can be. I have been working on one of Andre's kits and it has been a great way to relax on my day off. It also helps that it is a beautiful summer in central Virginia......and, I can do it outside.

James River?

It's called Salisbury Lake or Lake Salisbury. About 100 yards to the east is an earthen dam....the overflow turns into a stream called Falling Creek......about 10 miles southeast of here it flows into the James just north of the Drewry's Bluff battlefield.  If you go straight north from right here we're only about 2 miles from the from the south shore of the James.

As type this, I hear a train.....Norfolk Southern's line into Richmond from southwest VA through FarmVille is only a mile away. It is the ROW of the old Richmond & Danville. It was Jefferson Davis' escape route from Virginia in 1865. It was merged into the Southern RR after the Civil War. It had local passenger service out here (in Midlothian VA) till about 1956.
