hi guys i got great news i found a club called the Eastern Carolina Railroaders and i actually joined as i went to a meet yesterday. there was some awesome trains there mostly o gauge. most if not all brought their own equipment. i myself had a blast and that smell of ozone brought back so many memories. the club meet monthly at different people's layouts hopefully i can make most meets. i had 1 problem me and another member were gonna doublehead 2 mpc era geeps but right when i was aligning the wheels of the chessie gp20 somebody told us the motor burnt out and then shortly after that the other unit a rio grande gp9 the motor burnt out in that one too. but hey i'm good. I asked if i could bring my own engine and i was told yes. so next hit of a hobby shop i'm gonna look for an engine i can run at meets. I'm thinking about an old PS 1  SD90MAC or SD70MAC as i've heard from some youtubers you can get these for as low as 120 bucks and i've heard you can upgrade these but my question is it just a software upgrade or do i have to physically switch out boards and the other thing is sound i plan on patching my unit for allegheny federation Phoenix Transport and i want it to sound like a PHXT unit with crew dialog from my sci fi character Phoenix Starr. She has a voice like the actress Shailene Woodley and i can't just ask a celeb who doesn't know me to make voice recordings for my engine. is there a way i can track her voice footprint , record the dialog with my voice or a friend's voice and tweak it until it sounds like my character and then once i have the file upload it into the engine. I want it to be like my character Phoenix Starr is touring other railroads as she often leased power and helped other roads back in the late 90s and early 2000s. one thing i fear is PHXT leased equipment is gonna be banned on these other layout because i'm so young in fact i'd say i'm the youngest member and PHXT is fictional. I also made a video of my visit as i took tons of photos and videos

also somebody named Nick said i could come over to his place for ops sessions as he has alot of my favorite engines like the lionel GE demo unit from 1996 as long as i call ahead and make plans

Cody, what town or towns does the Eastern Carolina club meet at? Im in eastern Carolina and never heard of this club.....there is an Albemarle railroad club that meets in Elizabeth City NC..but Ive never heard of the group you mentioned...can you provide some details?

Greenville nc , i think Raleigh, also outta state areas like Chicago and Pennsylvania you can ccontact them for more information at 252-756-7842

I don’t think going with Ps1 engines at this point is cost effective unless you only run conventional control.   If you have any interest whatsoever is upgrading go ahead and at least go with a ps2 model.   I have seen some pretty cheap Ps1 engines on eBay.   But the difference between a decent Ps1 engine and a slightly newer ps2 model is still cheaper than doing a command upgrade in either dcs or Tmcc.  My advice if you haven’t already done this.  Save search on eBay with the keyword proto sound 1 or protosound 2.   And just sit back and see what pops up for a week or two. I think you’ll be surprised how cheap a ps2 or early tmcc engine can go for.   I certainly understand staying low buck however in the long run you’ll save more and have a more versatile engine for it.  Let us know what you end up with

If one can collect enough voice samples of said actress' lines, you can hack together pretty much anything (something often referred to on YouTube as 'sentence editing'), but the end result won't sound natural.

If you surmount that hurdle, you can play the result through the Proto-Cast feature of PS2 and PS3 locomotives, but there is no 'easy' method of incorporating these directly into the Protosound memory, since it was never designed to allow that. One member here has previosusly discussed his efforts at reverse-engineering MTH sound files to isolate and replace the individual sound recordings, but again, it's not a user-friendly process.

Cody;

Glad to see you’ve found a club - this hobby is best when you are running trains (or watching trains run). Since you seem to be a conventional runner and don’t have an aversion to MPC era equipment, I maybe able to help you out (assuming you don’t have any issues with steamers). Your profile doesn’t have an e-mail address, so if you drop me a note at the e-mail in my profile, we’ll see what we can do.
