IC fans-correct orange paint?

Wow, no one models Illinois central, or at least repaints to them?

You need to do a search for BROTHER LOVE and see his cabooses. Malcom, should have some advice about the Illinois Central.

Weaver has IC Orange in both Scale Coat I and  II product lines.

Tru Color also has a model railroad paint line and they also list an IC orange.

I model the IC. I have used Model Flex Illinois Central Orange #16-73...made by Badger; the guys that make Badger spray-paint brushes, etc.

Thanks guys...I did an "Illinois Central orange" search before posting this and got nothing but pics of engines...nice, but no cigar for paint references of any kind, so I thought I'd reach out here to see what everyone was using for paint colors.

The other day I ordered my O scale decals thru Dan at paducah so that's set...his reference was mixing two colors till happy..I was hoping for more of a "this paint" sort of answer.

I redid a Lionel NW-2 in IC livery as Lionel never made one. It was described in the October 2009 issue of LCCA's The Lion Roars. I used three coats of Scalecoat1 #S27 IC orange and it worked perfectly. I can email a copy of the article to you.

The best match for a 'fresh from the shop' IC orange is ScaleCoat II "New Haven Orange" over a light grey primer.

The prototype problem with IC orange was if faded fast, from orange to 'Creamsicle' orange, to orange tinted white. Complete repaints were often needed within 5 years of the last paint job.

This is good - I like options.

My intent is to keep the lionel geep in the Illinois central theme but do up the caboose in Illinois central gulf making it newer.
