*Lionel LionMaster Legacy T1
This was a very tough choice. I would be kicking and screaming, trying not to let go of my Spirit of the Century set.

Lionmaster Big Boy
Hogwarts Hall Class
Nick
The Lionel 2026 I received for Christmas, 1951. And the Lionel #41 US Army switcher that followed it six years later.
Those were the only two locomotives I had during the Fifties, and they're still good enough to be the only two today.
the DL&W had so many good engines to choose from, but....
Steam-
N6 class #1134 pacific
Q4 class #1643 pocono
Diesel-
H-26-44 trainmaster
EMD E8 A
Can't do it. Can't decide. I have my favorites but they do change often which I am actually happy about. Today it's the Lindburg E6 Atlantic and the Wabash FM Trainmaster.
Cotton Belt FT A/B painted in the as delivered scheme.
Atlas O SW series switchers
Feathers and a hen.......................................................Oh, I thought you said Rooster.
Don
I would have to have a SF Warbonnet A-A set (which I would count as one loco).
And, a SF Northern - the recent Legacy 3759.
I'm not picking on Keith in particular but I don't know how he could let go of that Custom Polar Express. I'd probably keep my Legacy 1225 and an Ann Arbor engine but I don't know. Several engines were gifts from my wife so it would be hard to choose between them.
Killian, don't have video of those two but do have #844 meeting our SP 2472. We filmed this a few years ago. Don
Speaking theoretically, ATSF Warbonnet A-B-A F units and any 2-8-0 steam engine popped into my mind. But of what I own, I'd have to keep the Lionel 2026 2-6-2 and Marx ATSF E7 Warbonnet A-A set - sentimental reasons, the first 2 engines I received as a kid.
Easy answer..Any Clinchfield Steam. Don't have any! But, I have NOT give up yet.
A 2332 GG1 & a 2330 GG1.
Milwaukee S3
Really tough, I suppose it would be my legacy scale 1225 berk, and my legacy m1b. Both are pretty much impossible to find if I were to want to replace them.
I'm with Killian - Challenger and Big Boy
2nd runners up
FEF-3 and N&W Class A
3rd
Greenbrier and N&W Class J
4th
Pennsylvania Q2 and Milwaukee Road S-3

I guess I would be having a fit about that one too See, it's a hard decision.
Only two locomotives? I just don't comprehend!!!

Good Evening,
If I was modeling in the 1960’s time frame, I’d pick the F7 and GP30. For 21st Century modeling, I’d select the SD70ACe and the ES44AC but if I was modeling the 80’s…….hmmmmm, how about the SD70MAC and GP60! I like them all!
not easy but my 681 and believe it or not my early 2029! that thing runs pulls and smokes fantastic best 30 bucks i ever spent on an engine!
Dave
my 1684, Dad's
and my 675, the first steamer I bought for myself. If it wasn't fr 1684, I might not be into trains, and have alot of memory helping Dad run his trains under the tree.
But then there's my 736....and my gunmetal 255E I rebuilt from a bare shell...and my....
My 1st Locomotive would be my be the 226e that I got **** 1941. Dad had to order it from a hardware store some 500 miles from home and, because of the scarcity due to the war it came with 2800 series freights of different ages. It had the caboose and searchlight cars with the 2 bar coupler head and the log dump and black hopper from later production. For the duration of the war I only saw it at Christmas. I still remember the smell as it came around the tree and the sizzle the old style lead tinsel made when it dropped on the tracks. The "V" transformer had a circuit breaker but the tinsel never tripped it.
No other locomotive has given me such pleasure but if I had to chose just one more I would probably go for a post war CC1. 2330 since my buddy had one and I truly lusted for it.

That 3rd Rail K2a is a must-have!
I like the K2a more than the J, probably just because the J has been done to death. I've seen a number of photos showing a K2a on ACL tracks at the station in Petersburg.
When I was in elementary school we went on a train ride and I believe they used a K2a for power, but I can't recall for sure.
Both sure would look purty on any layout!
The two I plan to always keep. The 1666 from 1946-47 and the Hudson 773 from 1950. Everyone enjoys seeing them run. Dick
Easy, My Lionel 226E and 726 Berk. If I could, I'd add the 1950 773 and be totally happy

i can not pick. each of my trains has to much meaning to me. it would be like saying that i would rather cut off my left hand instead of my right.
Tough to choose just 2, but if I could only have 2 it would be the Lionel PM1225 and the NKP 765. Doubleheaded of course.
I would pick a switcher such as a legacy 0-8-0 and a road engine.
If I had to choose just 2 for my own layout it would be the Pere Marquette Legacy 0-8-0 and the Pere Marquette Legacy 1225
My Lionel 2018 and 2353 ABA. Both are as old and grumpy as I am.
I would split old and new:
1. My uncle's 1947 2025
2. ACL F3 ABBA
GG1 green single stripe.
F7 B&O Blue Gray scheme
I find it interesting that roughly half of us are naming two real locomotives that we would want models of, while the other half are naming two particular model locomotives produced a particular manufacturer (most often Lionel). And that the second half more often than not names two Postwar locos. Shows the differing priorities of different model train enthusiasts!
I fall in the second camp. I would chose my 623 NW-2. Runs silky-smooth, and slow, using a PM-1.
Second? Among locos we own, the Rock Island 5100 northern from 1987. Among locos we don't own... either a 736 or a 226e.
A PRR T1 and a N&W J. And in today's world, I'd have to be guaranteed enough coal to run them for a loooong time.
For three rail "Lionel" type chooch;... My Custom Trains FM with all the "stuff"
and a MILW. 2338 GEEP !
For everything else, including 12"/Ft. ...Alco RS1, for everyday service ( hey, it's
steam without being steam ) and an EMD SD7 with DB, and 65:12 gears...for
when you need the sledgehammer!
You can accuse me of being a Dieselover...and you'd be right !!!
A UP Big Boy and CNW engine.
Very interesting topic. I don't think that I could do just two engines! Ya gotta have more than that.
But, I suppose that if I had to choose just two they would be the Hiawatha Atlantic and the Milwaukee S-3 Northern. But wait...what about the BiPolar? And the F-7 Hudson? And the Milwaukee Box Cabs, and the Erie Builts or for that matter, the C-Liners? How about the Little Joes.............
Can't do it. Impossible question! Now, this is gonna keep me awake tonight.
Paul Fischer
Lionel Legacy 844 and the N&W J. Now whether that J is VL, Legacy, or my TMCC version is yet to be seen.
