iHobby Show photos

Bachmann / Williams had one of the larger displays at the show.

Woodland Scenics had a large display with active demonstrations, which was very busy when I was there. People certainly like scenery and details. I took a lot of photos of the buildings, figuring many here are interested in them.

Here are a couple shots of the Atlas display, and one of the very large Hornby display, which covers Rivarossi, Corgi, Scaletric, and AirFix, amongst other brands.

The only operating layout in O that I noticed was the one at the MTH display. (Lionel was not present). There were several groups with N and HO layouts, including the European group and the LEGO group. Other than that, the R/C cars, planes, boats, helicopters and tanks were getting a lot of attention, as well as the various slotcar layouts. That hobby must be resurging. Here are miscellaneous photos. The tanks are R/C and look to be 1:10.

Was Lionel at this show? Judging from your lack of photos, I guess not.

I'll be in for one of those Large Scale Peter Witt cars to go with an Aristo-Craft PCC.  I'm a sucker for traction in just about any scale.

No, Lionel wasn't there. I am somewhat surprised. MTH's display was somewhat smaller that those I've seen at Trainfest or WGH shows. Bachmann/ Williams was impressive in its size. So was Woodland Scenics.

Doesn't surprise me that Lionel was not there, as I can't remember their presents at previous I Hobby conventions. Except for the last year IHobby show in Cleveland, we always had out Independent Hi-Railers, Midwest Division modular layout at virtually ever IHobby/RICTA event/convention held at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Rosemont, ILL. 

 

This years show just wasn't large enough for our modular layout, so we could not attend.

By the way, they had a display of photos of those who had been awarded membership in the Model Railroad Industry Association "Hall of Fame". Beside the display was this plaque of those members who have departed. What an impressive list of names! (Sorry I didn't get a better photo. )

John, thank you for the report and the great pictures.

 

I just received my Menard's version of the Woodland Scenics corner department store and door factory.  As with the previous six offerings, I was really impressed (especially the door factory).  I have not yet decided about the old time service station and looking at your pictures, the station appears to be almost a large as the store or factory.  Would that be your finding after seeing them in person or is there something in the way the buildings were set up on the display that makes it look so large.

 

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Don, I believe that the service station is comparable in size to the other buildings. Several of them were set up on rotating pilons, and rotated fairly quickly. I didn't get exact dimensions on them.The building is single story, of course, and the footprint is different....more of an L-shape. They are all great looking buildings.

I guess it's a bit early for S scale at the MTH display.

 

FWIW:

 

* Yes, slots have made a comeback and the new stuff is fantastic.  Digital slot racing is gaining in popularity, too. (1/32 home slotting is a side interest of mine.)

 

* Those R/C tanks are THE BOMB!  Love the Sherman's!!!  I need to stay away from those... far, far away!

Yes, Andre, and you should hear the engine sounds on them...very cool...I don't know if they have "crewtalk", however.
