My new Railking Imperial Turbine steamer is running on great track work with a "10" signal. It stops dead and shuts itself down on occasion and never will run in reverse. The reverse lights go on, the sounds go as though it is running but it is still in reverse. I reset it several times. Don't, please, tell me I need to ship another new engine back for service....Please don't tell me that.

I would check the drawbar. I've seen similar issues that can be traced back to the drawbar not being properly connected or becoming unseated while running.
Send it back John. Call MTH and ask for an RA.

Hi, John! Too bad you don't know anyone that has an Authorized SErvice Center for MTH Warranty repairs! LOL! Contact info in profile.
Luke,
Do us a favor. After you receive Dr. Sherwood engine, please let us know what the problem was. This way other folks can be on the watchout for similar problems. Thank you.

I posted last week for same engine. Brand new. I called MTH and they gave me expedited RA. Turn around time 2weeks they said. I tried both drwawbars that came with out. Tried conventional power.Completely dead. Ran nice for about 10 feet. I will post what they did in original thread and this one.
My money is bet on the drawbar being the culprit. Catoctin Mountain Trains has one on the shelf...very nice and runs great from what I saw (a few loops on the layout to hear the "whoosh"). I'll be honest, I've always wanted an S2 and seriously considering buying it. Very tempted. I'd also be interested in hearing what the exact problem is.

John, it's been a few days and I was wondering how your making out. Did you talk to MTH service? I'm curious if they were able to offer a fix by phone or if you had to send the Imperial Turbine back like I did.
Hmm...I'm picking up this engine at York and was planning to hand to the wife to give to me at Christmas. I guess I'll have to set it up on the test track and run for a bit first. At least the dealer I buy from is a stand up act.

Nothing to do with the fix but Is the tender proportioned to the engine?
Yes, a great engine. The Imperial line in my opinion is a great bargin. All the features and less money. Great concept. Now if MTH could get the out of the barn QC up to speed they would have it made. To be fair, I have had similar issues with Lionel also. I can't wait to get this turbine back as it is a very nice engine.

John,
What do you mean the wires getting flexed back and forth. I'll admit that I didn't look closely at the drawbar when examining it at the LHS.
