I bought a Lionel 1880s-style RI&P coach (without window strips) on e-Bay to accompany my existing three coaches that already have the factory window strips.  I want to make the fourth coach match the other three.  I bought a clear sheet of plastic and dulling spray (to add some subtle "fog" to the window sheets) for a match., but I've never done this kind of task before. I'm not a skilled craftsman. How difficult is it to install "window" strips in this coach?  Tips welcome

Hi Mike,

I haven't added frosted windows to a rail car, but I did add some to a mine building I scratch built.  I used clear plastic that I cut from a package.  You know the kind; they are almost impossible to open!  I sprayed one side with a dull coat from a rattle can.  I used small dots of hot glue to hold the "windows" in place.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out.  I'll try and find a photo.

The biggest challenge is picking the right adhesive. You want it to stay put for years. You also want a glue that doesn’t ooze all over the place when you press the window in place. Go for a glue that dries clear. Canopy glue can be found at most hobby shops. Even if it squishes a bit when you press the window in place. It will dry clear.  There are plenty of adhesives and everyone has their favorite. Even tape or transfer tape will work.
My go to is Liquid PSA from Micromark. It looks like Elmers coming out of the bottle. The trick is. To go do another activity for about an hour after you apply it. It dries and become tacky. Sort of like the backside of a adhesive sticker. Press you window in place and no glue travels anywhere. I’ve used the same bottle for years with no comebacks. The downside is. It’s not cheap and with the cost of shipping. Probably not worth it for one job.

I've been using Walthers  Goo with good results. I put some on a toothpick to apply, it's fast, cheap and easy.
