I'm wondering if it is an early version of the GM "Futurliner" or at least the inspiration for it. Doesn't match exactly but it's got the same design idea.
According to Internet sources (not necessarily authoritative, but credible), it's a custom job on a 1936 Ford chassis. It was built for Duro Metal Products of Chicago as a rolling showroom. Here's a link to the same photo, with some information.
I think one of the History or Velocity TV shows or some vehicle restoration show had that truck on one of the shows last fall. A guy was restoring one. Pretty neat!
