I recently bought a Southern Pacific Lionel 6-22922 Intermodal Crane It was listed as new in the box and very much looks to be just that. Everything seems to work as it should except it goes down fine but wont go up. seems to be slipping as the motor runs and if I take the weight off of it and help it a tad it will go up. Looked at taking the cover off of the motor but can not see how it comes off. Looks like it should just snap off but tried a small amount of pressure and it doesn't seem to want to move ANY SUGGESTIONS ??????

Dick,
Chances are the plastic gear has split ( a common problem). There is an outfit that makes a brass press on gear that will go in it's place (inexpensive). I have performed the repair but don't recall the part source. Do a search on the forum and I'm sure you will find the source of the gear.
Thanks.

Henning's Trains has the brass gears.
The assembly from Hennings works perfectly and was not too hard to install.
Years ago I had replaced the defective gear with the plastic replaceemnt gear and it gave out eventually, just like the original.
The part from Hennings is getting a lot of use and is performing well.
Thanks for the information. Do you have a contact for Hemings?
Dum me now I see the contact at the top of your meddsge
I bought my NW crane new when it came out in the 90’s. I never had a problem with it. I ordered the Hennings gears just to have it when/if needed. The very next time I used the crane after receiving the brass gear, the plastic one gave up! Talk about timing! Works great!
Do they come installed on the shaft or do you receive just the gears. Looks like they are pressed on.
