Harry, how much? and do you have a photo and perhaps a link to buy or product number to order off your websight. I recently got mine out the other day and modified the grabbers and now it works flawlessly. all thats is left is to upgrade the plastic gears. been meaning to do this mod for a long time. just now getting around to it.
Question, also if metal gears were installed could you lift heavier scale size containers? would anybody here know? maybe the string also would have a part in the weight issue. not sure.
The part# is: 2741-105/325 @$18.00 ,Listed in our eBay store (7208 harry), and our web site. We also have:
#2741-105 brass helix gear @$10.00
#6SP-2741-285 Lionel plastic w/ square hole winding spool gear $3.00
#2741-325 brass pinion gear @$4.00
#2741-405 brass wheel drive gear.@ 10.00 Harry
Thanks Harry!
I ordered a set from you on EBAY. Let's see if I can get my old Mi-Jack to behave a little bit better.
(My son somehow finds it humorous when it accidentally drops a trailer...)
Harry, please put a set of those with the next batch of MTH parts that you have for me.
Excellent, just made the purchase on eBay. Thanks for letting us know!
TJ
just ordered mine also. thanks harry
Whenever I see brass and gear in the same sentence I get uneasy. Brass is probably the worst possible material for gears.
Good bronze alloy gears will last hundreds of times longer than brass, and engineering plastic, properly pre-aged before hobbing, is even better.
Early Sunset steamers came with brass axle gears. They would fail in about three hours. Mort had some replacements hobbed up in bronze, and it solved the problem.
This application may be unique. The small plastic gear that this brass one replaces has a large inside diameter relative to the overall diameter. The gear splits too easily because there is not enough material between the shaft opening and the bottom (valley?) of the teeth.
Having replaced and repaired this plastic gear numerous times, I am comfortable that this brass set will last much, much longer.
TJ
I agree with TJ, I suspect brass gears would last much longer than the plastic ones now in the Mi-Jack. In any case, many people say brass gear when they're really bronze gears. After all, they're the right color.

This is great news! My Mi-Jack is all original plastic gears.
Would I need to purchase each one of the line items above to convert it to the more robust gearing? Or are some of the items listed just parts that make up item #2741-105/325?
Thanks!
Just the assembly & maybe # 2741-405. Harry
I have one customer tell me he is using his mi-jack with the new brass gears to lift his locomotives to other tracks. I was / am impressed!! Harry
Me too, I figured something else would give out!
Just ordered mine on ebay also. Thanks.

Harry,
I’m still about confused. All, of the brass parts listed are in the assembly? The 6sp is not part of the assembly?
I just installed a set of the #2741-105/325 gears from Henning's in my cranky Mi-Jack. Big improvement!

YES,,,,,Amen
No, there were no instructions included. Maybe someone could post a 'how to' on the Mi-jack.
Sorry, but we sold out of all pieces for now. The forum response for the gears was far beyond my expectations. I have ordered a larger shipment this time. Should probably be about 2 weeks. Who says "ADVERTISING DOSEN'T PAY" ..
Thank you all for your support. Harry
guys, just google lionel mi-jac crane and there is a post in the photos section that gives color photos of the disassembly of the crane part that needs the new gears. it does not look hard at all to do. 15min tops if carefull with the strings that are used to move the crane up and down. just press that photo and the artical will come up. I would link it here but not sure how sorry.
thanks harry also for making these parts available again on an accessory this old. I may place another order when the second batch comes in. just in case I find another good deal on a used one that works. I always likes how tonka nut did his with two.
Guys-the install was uber easy. I did it during my break while working at home. As I posted earlier, the 2741-105/325 set gave my tired Mi Jack a new lease on life.
I've been tempted to see if it will pick up a Lionel GG-1.
OK, one more stupid question....How about the plastic gear on the motor? Do you replace it also? if so what is the # for the brass gear/pinion?
Here is a link to forum member Susan Deats' website that should help with the installation. Hopefully, this is allowed.
