I was wandering through some old posts I made on http://macrossworld.com and found these guys combining another hobby of mine in Japanese robots. These this are actually transforming aircraft into "battroid" mode or "gerwalk".

The irony is these guys did manage to destroy this model city now obliterated into history.

I took these back in 2006.

I love these photos. Roy Fokker and Rick Hunter protecting the city. Now I have that terrible Minmay song in my head!!!!!

I watched Robotech as a kid, then got the boxed set and watched them again while feeding my now 4 year old his bottles. I still enjoyed it, but that song over and over!!!

Just for kicks, here is the link. This song was played in just about every one of the Macross Robotech episodes.

I found some  more of these.

Those VF-1 model/toys are fully transforming from aircraft to battroid.  They are what they refer to as "perfect transformation" meaning no removal of any of the parts. They were manufactured by Yamato of Japan for thier market and the Macross original version of the Harmony Gold "Robotech".

The Japanese are crazy about this stuff and the toys are generally $400-$500 a piece.

These are according to the specs 1/48 scale and as an aircraft they are very close if not dead on. An artista figure seats neatly in the cockpit. Even if your not into the mecha thing these are remarkable engineered pieces. Amazing frankly.

So cool!

I'm a huge Macross fan, recently found the Robotech series got released on DVD as well as a re-dubbed version of the original Japanese version (PG-rated stuff included, cursing, too). I've watched each more than once, which is quite a feat considering how long it is.

Always wanted to get one of the high-end VF toys which can be converted through the various modes but couldn't afford one in my teens. Now I could afford one but have no place to display it.

A good friend of mine in Florida has a massive HO scale layout which has names for businesses and places based on sci-fi, the layout name is Trek-themed. There's a MacRoss company on the layout and I think I heard him say that he'd either modelled a crashed Valkyrie in a forest or was going to (I can't recall which).

I am big into sci-fi and I know plenty of model train fans are as well (lots of them are into old airplanes, too, for some reason).

I have a moderate collection of sci-fi stuff and am a big fan of some 'dead before their time' shows, such as Space: Above and Beyond, Defying Gravity as well as both versions of Battlestar Galactica, among others: http://www.freewebs.com/willysmb44/scifi.htm

I may be an old guy (58), but I see something here that the recent Halloween layout photos started milling in my head.  I am not into robots or science fiction, but my son-in-law is and my older daughter's boyfriend really is.  My older daughter make her own dolls, but all her dolls are more like fairies to the point of some close to robots.

Now, none of them are interested in my trains, but what if there was some play value of robots lurking on my layout.  Not much different than monsters on a Halloween layout, or gators in an Appalachian stream, or Nessie in an Ozark lake.  I have seen all of these on this forum.

Back when I was in high school, I did not know one person who liked trains, yet I was influenced by Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman magazines.  I saved my money to buy my own train and build a layout. Probably the most famous, innovative modeler of the time, John Allen, had a dinosaur pulling a train.  It even had a number on it's side and was listed on his roster of exceptional locomotives.  He had other critters, as well.

I knew a number of guys who liked slot cars.  I felt left out.  Then I saw an article in Boys Life magazine where two boys built a slot car track curving around like a Grand Prix, and built hilly, wooded scenery around the tracks.  Why not have Trains and cars running on the same layout.  Alas, I only had money for one, so I stuck with trains.  Now OGR Forum's own Lee Willis has produces a book on incorporating Streets track and vehicles on a layout, his own as the example.

All that said, why not have robots on your layout, maybe a damaged building or two.  No different than a Godzilla roaming the streets of a layout photo last week on the forum, and if it suits you, go for it.  If it doesn't suit you, maybe it will suit your kids or grandkids, and they will get interested in trains, then there will be some quality child, dad, grandpa time spent.
