Thank you for including the 3662 in your post Patrick. IMO it still stands up well with the scale offerings.

You're welcome! I agree, indeed the 3662 holds its own!!
Well I am somewhat short of "rail" refers this week so I thought I would post a vintage "road" refer, the old ICE truck that used to come around the neighborhood to sell blocks of Ice for your Ice box.
In a more traditional way, here is a Lionel #7507 75th Anniversary Refer made 1975-1977.

Hood Dairy group had two plants in Central New York. The Vernon Plant is a culture products plant (cheese products) and the Oneida Plant is a milk processing plant. Interesting enough, both were served by the NYO&W prior to its demise. Being in the industrial boiler business, my company serviced the boilers in both plants and also the Hood Plant in Binghamton, an old Crowley Plant. After the O&W's failure, the plants went to being served by trucks as the rails were scrapped. This old Hood Reefer still has some life left in it on my NYNH&H NYO&W layout.

You have three of the four paint schemes that covered the time from 1936 to 1952 with one exception, the 1942 scheme. From left is the 1936 scheme, 1946 scheme, and 1950 scheme. Several manufacturers made cars in each of these schemes. As far as I can tell, only Weaver made the 1942 scheme shown below on a wood car. It is a little too dark.
The PFE was pretty good at repainting wood reefers every 4-6 years, and steel every 10 years, except during WWII. After WWII they quickly repainted most of their cars, so technically for my late 40s era layout the only scheme I should have is the 1946 with maybe a few 1942 schemes on steel cars. Maybe someday AtlasO will put the 1942 scheme on one of its steel reefers.

Well I admit, I normally do not have much to offer in the way of a Reefer, but the "Train - a- Palooza" show in Gravevine, Tx gave me an opportunity to acquire this one that I have admired in other posts and pictures. So here is my "Dairymen's League" refer from Lionel.

One of the things I really miss about living in Brooklyn is being able to drive down to Coney Island and picking up some Nathan’s (there are other Nathan’s restaurants around, but the food NEVER tastes as good as from Coney Island). Best fries on earth!!!
First, from the good folks at NLOE a few years ago…
Two MTH cars from a special run done by TrainWorld…
And I guess if you’re getting a dog and fries, you need a cold brew!!!

Amen to that Paul! We lived in Marine Park till 2014. My wife and I would go down to Nathan’s in the Spring and Fall. Get a couple of dogs and of course the fries. We would eat in their outdoor area and then walk up to the boardwalk. Isabel couldn’t get enough of that salt air. Before we got back to the car we would get the true frozen custard. The last time we were there we could only find one place that had it.
Thanks for the memories!

Yes, while my mind wanted to go; the body said no; about 10 years before we left. Now my mind rides it on the club layout 😎

Mark Spadaro, your Costal Limited Set was one of the sharpest sets Lionel made. The colors they used on the engine and cars were great.

Agree completely, Jim.

Mark;
Is that a considered medical opinion or a cautionary tale based on personal misfortune???
Very perceptive, Paul. There’s no teacher like experience!

Here are my reefers for this fine Monday! A Maryland summer tradition ... crabs and beer! A B&O express reefer ( by MTH ) brings crabs from the Chesapeake Bay and another reefer( also by MTH ) brings Baltimore American beer. Note the large crabs in the pot.
A large pot with large crabs requires being moved with a fork lift. In actuality, I'm certain crabs were not shipped this way, however, I saw this pot of crabs at a train show and immediately I had to have it .. lol! I would think, though, that back in the day the B&O would ship crabs from the Chesapeake Bay to inland destinations such as Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, etc., in express reefers as part of headend consists, on B&O passenger trains.

I purchased two of those Budweiser trucks from my local hobby shop ( they had a great sale at the time ) in the mid 2000s. Since my first time to York in 2010, I've seen those same Bud trucks for sale many times. They are made by Corgi. If you're interested in obtaining one, you might check on line auction sites.
