It's snowing and it's cold... Let's see those plows!

Now you have become an influencer to me….picked up my first Atlas (MTH) Nickel plate plow from Stockyard Express this week (great train shop) after seeing your post recently. Now I’m worried about getting more….

I believe these to be O N-30 Scale, they passed through my hands last summer.

Here is my Canadian plow.

Just in new Atlas plows (from old MTH tooling ) custom run for the CTTA club. Look great!

Competing CP and CN railway plows CP using a blower to blow snow on CN line and CN trying to catch up to plow onto CP line!

This is a kitbashed double track plow.

I picked this one up at York a few years ago.

These PostWar Lionel beauties are ready to go to work if we get snow on Long Island this year - none so far.

My layout has two plows, neither one correct for my layout's late 1940s era. 

The first one is a MTH RK Russell Single Track Plow.  The wing was used to clean adjacent track or move the snow far off the right of way.  MTH got all the visual points correct on this model, but shortened the plow too much.  There needs to be more room around the window and the plow itself needs to be longer.  The biggest issue for me is the yellow color which did not come about until the early 50s.  Need to paint it gray  and see if I can add a rail flanger.

The other plow I own is a MTH RK Jordan Spreader.  This model looks more correct as far as its demensions and may be a "heavy duty type A" spreader, ditcher, snow plow.  Black is okay, but I need to remove that newer PRR Keystone.

John - As a matter of fact it is a little chilly in my train room, but nowhere near the temps my photographed scenes portray ... lol!  

I created the snow by using a scenic material called  Fusion Fiber ( which I "think" you can purchase from Scenic Express ) for a base where I wanted a clumpy effect.  Next I applied ( sprinkling from bottle ) Woodland Scenics snow to soften the clump effect.   In some places I also used the cheap shredded plastic snow some folks use for Dept 56 villages and/or under the Christmas tree temporary layouts, and again sprinkled Woodland Scenics snow over top.  At other times I did a blend of all 3  .. Fusion Fiber, shredded plastic snow, and Woodland Scenics snow ...  and sometimes only  the Woodland Scenic snow. For the snow clinging to the Jordan Spreader front blade I first spread on some Tacky Glue then sprinkled Woodland Scenics snow directly onto the glue.   It's probably going to be a chore to get that snow and glue off the blade .. but I'll gitter done!  LOL!

Due to a very warm and pretty much snow free winter to date (both in NE Pennsylvania and Westchester Co., NY), my snow plow has been dormant

Actually, MTH got it right. The problem is, they used a Canadian prototype (which is considerably shorter) instead of a US Russell type. Frankly, I wish they had used the US style. But at this point, you either take what is offered, or make your own. Both of my kitbashes were built long before MTH came out with their version.

Found some pics of a CP prototype; definitely shorter.  They referred to it as a Russell, and it looks like it should be, but I could not find any pics of this shorter plow searching "Russell snow plows".  Wonder if it is a Russell?
