Hello All,
I just won an Ives 3243 and it's in need of a few parts, plus I want to make sure I get the correct passenger cars for it. First it's missing the bell and one of the flag holders. Any idea who might carry them? And second, it look like this is an earlier model as it's stamped instead of having brass plates. What would be the correct passenger cars to go along with this engine? I've seen them labeled as 18X-X but I'm guessing I would want the 18X-1?

Sam, The passenger cars associated with your version of 3243 (Early 1st Series, Rubber Stamped), would consist of the 187, 188, 189 Early cars, with rubber stamping. IT would have been found in the Set# 704, and all date to 1921-1924. After 1924 the Brass plates were used, starting in 1925. Below is a link from the Ives website.

You can do some of your own research on the website, but here is a tip to searching. Using "Google", type in 'Ives 3243 train', which will bring up a few hits, and look for one titled 3243 Electrics 1925-1928 - The Ives Train Society. You can also search for the Set 704, by using Google, and that will have a few additional hits. Google is your friend with a lot of this research !!! Have fun reading.

Here is a link to Ives website, that gives you opportunity to search other items. http://ivestrains.org/CD/MainMenu.htm. You need to look at bottom right of the page that comes up. There will be a choice for “index”, and click on that. You want to search under “Wide Gauge”, to locate your loco. There are different items that will show up. Do your searching from there.
