Hello! I been following this forum for sometimes now. Just wanted to say its such a pleasure to read such great informative post. Just got done tearing my "N" scale layout down, so I can go into "O". Main interest will be Pennsylvania Road and their motive power. GG1, a T1, and also a switcher. Figure on a 6X16 layout, so far.

Have only one question seeing a Williams GG1, what is the plug for on top? (I'm doing a lot of research before commitment to purchase, as I sell my "N", I'll be buying). Thanks for such great inputs by all. Hope down the road I can help, or ask for same.

For the GG-1 is it the Traditional size or Scale?. Do asearch here and there is quite a bit out there for "Williams GG!. There is a big thread that does a comparison. You might find out in there.

Its Williams SG220 Scale GG1 #4829 Abbreviated 5 stripe model. Have a chance to buy it, but the lady knows nothing about it except its never been run, just taken out of box to display.

I know you will enjoy this forum, and I think you will enjoy O gauge much more than N. I made the transition from N to O about seven or eight years ago. Wish I had done it earlier. I enjoy it much, much more. People who visit my layout seem to enjoy it a lot more, too.

Welcome to the forum.

If you are referring to the circular roof protrusion circled in red -- that is the boiler vent.

The GG1's had steam boilers fired by oil. the steam was used for train heat in passenger service.

Hello there Josef and again, Welcome. You'll find the Williams models to be very good performers with decent appearance and quite a value. If you eventually plan to run command control they are easily upgraded to Lionel's or MTH's systems plus there are detail parts available to add if desired.
