I finally found the Reading F7-ABA units I was looking for. Unfortunately after some mild track use, one of the wires in the B unit “plug” that hooks into the A unit slot has a break in it. With the break, the unit runs but noticeably hesitates. I got around it temporarily with some electrical tape but I want a long term fix. These units are old and I can imagine after some heavier use I might expect more wires to fray or break.

It’s probably very unlikely that I’ll be able to find another one of these wiring harnesses anyplace unless I buy another B unit and use its harness.

I plan to take it in to my local guy to see if there’s a fix for it.

The AA units will run fine without the B but the B has the horn.

Ideas welcomed👍

I had the same issues with the K-line SF ABA and sent it to Brasseur and they did a great job repairing them.

I ended up ordering the part from Brasseur. In case anyone is interested it’s a K2500-X001. It has 2 blue and 2 brown wires/male plug.

I opened up the shell and it doesn’t seem to be too difficult (famous last words). The 4 wires go into a wire but along with a yellow wire from the female receptacle.

If I hose it up, too take it to my local shop.

I’d like to try it on my own. I got an old K-Line Reading F7 ABA and given its age the wires are most likely not in the best of condition.

I think I bumped the B unit once and then noticed erratic running. Sure enough, one brown wire was broken just short of the pin. Too short to “mend”.

Anyway, the part cost $10 and with shipping and handling came to about $21.00.

How much was your repair including shipping costs?

 Thanks 👍

There are 2 wire nuts that need to be unscrewed, wires untwisted and taken apart. Basically the 2 brown wires go to one but and the 2 blue to the other. The wires came “unstripped” so I needed to take care of that before anything else took place. Also, the new harness did not come with any “compression sleeve” so I used the old one.

The whole process took less than an hour. The hardest part was reattaching the 2 mini screws and washers to the underside of the chassis. These 2 screws go into two little cylinders that hold the guts of the wires in place. Many curse words later it was done. I added a few strips of electrical tape for good measure.

Hooked up my B unit in between the two A’s and it ran fine. With the broken wire in there before the whole ABA ran erratically.

Before the fix I decided to run the two A units back to back and the B unit detached from them and it functioned fine but I wanted the whole ABA running together.

Seems ok now 👍
