I just bought a brand new K2780-4892IC GG-1 that'll be arriving in the mail later this week. I browsed a few posts to get a general idea of what I should expect but didn't get a clear consensus. The engine is likely 15+ years old by now so I know I will need to open it up and have it serviced before operation. I'm also curious as to what is needed to upgrade this to TMCC as the box says it is upgradable to TMCC.

Great engine, mine has TMCC. Personally not worth it to try to find a TMCC kit as K-line GG-1's are readily available on the secondary market. These are not scale models, but nice anyway.. Dave G.

If it is the K-Line collector's club GG-1 you might be shocked when you open the package. I had one and the truck assemblies fell off because of zinc rot, still ran but looked terrible. If has the original trucks you might have to replace the truck assemblies.
Plus the GG-1 only has a wire harness to hook up to for the TMCC, no other TMCC parts in that engine.

Expect to be happy, My first can motor unit. I didnt want to like it. I didn't set out to buy it. The price got me curious, the looks hooked me.
A quiet runner with smooth as silk starts, unlike the jackrabbit starts of the PW versions. It, ooks betteuns steadier, stays railed, and pulls, better than the single motor PW. The only thing I have an issue with is the headlights are on the dim side, as the motors dont need much voltage in conventional (fastest train I have with real pulling power.) There is no horn in mine. I don't know if that's why I got it so cheap or not? He mentioned the lack of it, I didnt care at his price.
Look to see the trucks sit flat and aren't askew. I noticed my pilots were tweaked, but a twist by hand and they sit flat and have stayed that way....except for a table dive when it got a second tweaking. Even askew, it stayed on the rails better than my PW. I think the pilot guide slots needed 1/32" to 1/16 trimmed to run on 0-27 (but doesn't clear PPWturnout housing.
Composer is freaking out (every Sunday it seems) I thing I giving up todag, & will try again soon. specific questions!?
Thanks for the all the information fellas! Not equipping it with TMCC won't bother me much as I can just run it on my conventionally controlled layout. It is in fact the K-Line Collectors Club GG-1 so I will look for evidence of zinc pest when it arrives. From the pictures provided it didn't appear to be affected at all, I will however be sure to take extra care in unpacking the engine!
Ok updated a few things....
I have no sign of pest. I didn't know it was an issue.
HI Everyone,
I have one of the K-line engines too. Who would you suggest to do a TMCC upgrade on one of these and about how much would it cost to do so? I would like to have TMCC and sounds in mine.
Thanks for you suggestions.
Jim
The ERR parts, Cruise Commander and RailSounds Commander will set you back around $200. The installation is pretty straight forward, figure on a little extra wiring if you want the marker lights to be functional.
