I recently purchased a scale TMCC K'Line Hudson to be a stop-gap for the 700e, the detail is beautiful and the price was excellent! But I was running it a few days ago and it just up and decided to stop moving on the tracks. I tried asking for assistance on the scale side of the forum with not a single response, so I figured some of my friends here in the tinplate forum might be a bit more helpful.
I'm under the impression the motor boards go bad on these easily, not sure how to test them or where to get them... or if it could be something else entirely. Hopefully some of you guys have experience with TMCC and know how I can get it running again (my friend let me borrow his controller to test it, my "Z" doesn't have all the fancy digital controls).

If I was a locomotive with a wide open belly I would surely stop running and start crying.
Seriously, the scale forum has only a few folks with any clue about TMCC or Proto whatever. We hook one lead to the tender, the other to the locomotive, and apply DC. Some are moving toward DCC and Tsunami sound - whatever that is -
I did 2-rail a K-Line Hudson many years ago. Motor in the firebox and a round boiler. It looked pretty good. I kinda miss K-Line.
Good luck - you will probably do better on the O-27 forum, or the one dedicated to TMCC.

That's where I posted.
I acquired the conventional K Line Hudson a couple years back and converted to TMCC Command Control with ERR components. It is very simple to do, and for me, worth the small expense. Yes, it is a great detailed engine, scale sized and runs great. Give a shout out to Gunrunner John, GGG, or Stan, or many others for what may be a cause. I had electronics fail in a scale K Line Berkshire and fixed/made better with ERR products, also. Depending upon what monies you have into it, may be willing to invest, ERR would be a worthwhile, great functioning aspect to consider, IMHO.

It certainly is a handsome looking model...

Every now and then my K-line hudson decides to stop or something else strange. I have found that doing a reset restores it to normal operation. Just Google "reset a tmcc engine" and follow the simple steps.

Let's start with the exact symptoms of the failure. Do you still have sounds and lights? Do the couplers still work? What works and what doesn't work?

Everything works except the motor, the headlight also seems to flash now.
I tried resetting the TMCC with my friends controller with no luck. I checked all the switches and took it apart yesterday and found nothing suspicious.
You never did specify exactly what model you have. If it's the K-Line Hudson with cruise, that might explain it. Those boards have a history of failing, usually the current fix is the ERR Cruise Commander M as a replacement.
John, Yep, that describes what the problem was with my scale K Line ATSF Berk. I ordered the Cruise M from Ken, at the time, and after installation (along with new can motor from Brasseurs, while I had it apart), it has ran great and cruises great, maintaining speed with a long consist on all grades. One thing I really like about the ERR Cruise M is the EMF back feed, no flywheel tape needed. Run it a lot since the upgrade 8 yrs ago with no difficulties. Yes, the scale K Line engines are hard to beat for what you can pick them up for. As it turned out, the can motor was good and that leaves me with a spare, (such a thing?), can motor for when needed.

I have half a dozen of the failed K-Line cruise boards in my dead board box.
Is the ERR cruise control a plug & play sort of deal or does it require some modifications?
Brian, It is very straight forward and simple, with excellent instructions provided. Perhaps the most difficult part is making certain you have located the proper serial data wire for connection, and that is not hard, at all, but crucial. With proper tracing of wiring and connection to circuits, easily obtained.

I wouldn't call it PnP, but it's not rocket science. There are some wrinkles (aren't there always) for certain K-Line models. Specifically, a few models (the tank engine comes to mind) generate the chuff from the cruise board. If you replace the cruise board, you have to add a chuff switch. Others may power markers or cab lights from the aux outputs of the cruise board, you may have to tweak those a bit.
Alright, sounds easy enough, I'll give it a go.
