Hi guys, I have a k-line ep5 with the poorly made pilot. I have a new one, looking for how to replace the broken one. That is how to get to the pilot mounting screws. I'm surprised the internet doesnt have a video on this. As always, I appreciate the advice.

Any thoughts?
I don't have this particular locomotive, however I am fairly certain that all of my loco pilots mount on the top side of the truck. It looks like this loco has vertical motors, and the screw in the bottom center of the truck looks like the screw that goes into the motor mount. (Not the screw through the pick up roller.) Remove that screw and the truck should come off. Removing the shell will prevent breaking the details on top and will give you access to the motor flywheels that you may have to turn to get the worm to disengage and reengage when reattaching the truck. Be careful that you don't break the wires. They are usually very short.
I looked for pictures of the K-Line EP-5 on line and the advise I gave you is based on what I saw in those pictures and my experience with my locomotives. Hope this helps.

Had the same problem when a K-Line EP5 arrived with a pilot snapped off. I took the approach to make my EP-5 front pilot a "fixed" pilot. But what Mike D. laid out above is correct.
Here are pics showing the top side of a truck assembly with the broken pilot mounting piece mounted to truck by two flat head screws and with that piece removed from the top side of the truck.

I will attempt this endeavor later this evening. I sincerely appreciate the time put into the replies.
Where did you get the replacement pilot? One of mine had zinc rot and crumbled to dust waiting in the box for the engines next run.
