Hi Doug,

I regrettably don't have access to files of my scans until June but what I can tell you is that these instruction booklets were for the most part generic. If you have or can locate a manual covering a Kline Steam engine with Cruise you'll be set. Even a non-cruise steam manual would give you the TMCC commands for general operation (not cruise.)

My next question is this engine was undecorated.  I would like it to represent N&W.  How would I go about getting it numbered and lettered?

Thanks again.

Doug,
I just bought some really nice steam era decals from Micro Scale. Very easy to use
and turned out great.

David

Micro-Scale Decals:

Use only the Micro-Scale setting solutions. They have two. One a pre-set and the other the setting solution. Something like "Solvaset" will burn them up in a heartbeat! Apply a gloss or semi-gloss finish to the model. Wet the area with the pre-set solution. Apply the decal and get it in the right position and try to get all of the bubbles out from under the decal. Then use the setting solution. NOW STOP!

This is very important!

Next, go away and let it dry. You may see the decal start to shrivel. LEAVE IT ALONE! Do not move the decal around. If you do, you'll mess it up. These are very thin decals and it doesn't take much to mess them up.

After the decal has dried and there are no bubbles under it, you can then apply whatever final finish you desire.

Champ Decals:

If you use Champ decals, you can safely use "Solvaset" setting solution. As a matter of fact, the Micro-Scale stuff will probably not be strong enough to get them to hug down around rivet detail.

Doug,
The decals are about the same as the ones you fooled with 50 years ago.
I did this to mine and it works. Clean it with denatured alcohol to get oil and finger prints off. Then apply a coat of Pledge with future shine floor polish . it's actually an acrylic and will dry shiny(Drys in about 30 minutes to an hour). Now you've got your smooth surface for your decal . I just brushed it on with the engine or tender on it's side. It drys fairly quickly(in a couple hours). I don't use any more water than necessary the depression in a saucer that the coffee cup sits in is enough. Dip it in the water and let it soften then slide it into place.

keep a glass of water handy and a soft brush. if your decal is crooked wet with the brush and work it into place. Dab off the water with a paper towel.
Once you have the water dabbed away take a dry soft brush and lightly push down against the decal. Not to the side not against it's length straight down.
This gets rid of any air or water bubbles.
once you've let it dry for several hours apply another coat of pledge and let it dry over night.
Apply several light coats of Testors dull coat and you'll have a decal that looks painted on.

Doug, try to set the engine back to factory set up. I have a K-line Berkshire that was running very slow like yours. I reset the engine and it worked fine. By the way the instructions from K-line are next to useless. There not for any specific steam engine. You will get more help here. I'm not very good at electronics but get lots of help from the Forum. Don

I know this is a stupid question but did you try to set the momentum to low first?
With it on high it'll seem like it takes forever to get up to speed.
I love the high setting for Legacy steam engines... not so great for TMCC

David

Thanks for your input.  Not a stupid question, Yes I did set the momentum to L (I had changed it to M)

Don, I have a Weaver instruction book that covers this engine, they are the same.  It says to:

Set to Prog

Eng - id

set

Eng - id - Aux#43

Power off

Power back on

Is this what you did?

Thanks  Doug
