The MTH N5c is scale. The K-Line is not. It looks generally like an N5c but so did the Lionel postwar version.
To bad MTH did add marker lights to the N5c
I do not have any for that reason.
Lionel service depart called 08:30 this morning to let me know that they were sending a set box and the power supply out Priority Shipping and I should have it in a day or two. I really appreciated the call which I didn't expect at all. That's fixing things quickly and efficiently. Can't wait to run these K-Line F-3's in a few days!
Okay got the Milwaukee Road F-7's up and running, at least the ABA is. The extra B Unit doesn't match the wiring, it has 8 pin plugs while the ABA set has 4 pin. No problem with that, the ABA looks great and is enough train for my layout. The Lionel cars for being silhouettes just plain ROCK! The cars are seeing their first daylight since they were made and the paint is spectacular. Correct or incorrect as to prototype, don't know, don't care, these are just sweet cars. They look great behind the F-7's. I tried to load some pictures but there appears to be a problem uploading to the OGR server right now. Here is a short video clip with the FLIP Cam.
To be totally honest K-line made some really cheap crap... at first glance I would never purchase what I had seen at local train shows...
And then as I started to look through some of their elusive products they made - lo and behold they made some really cool stuff! seems the new products were really not hitting the secondary market.
K line products were one item you had to see it in your hands to judge it.
To this day their passenger cars, scale steamers, cabeese, scale freight cars, and operating accessories are impossible to beat.
Too bad they stepped on the big guys toes... so long K-line.
Here's a MU (lash up!) of 2 K-Line engines surrounding a Weaver....This train is very heavy, lots of die cast vehicles.
A few K-Line cars in there, too!
Peter
After running the F-7's for awhile I do need to do something about cruise control. Besides finding a K-Line cruise what else is available?
The ERR Cruise Commander M is pretty much the default cruise upgrade these days. A lot of problems have been reported with K-Line's own cruise systems.
Nick, will they fit in any K-line scale steamer or diesel? Don
Pete (Norton) has reported that he's upgraded K-Line's very small B-6 switcher with the Cruise Commander M, and the K-Line Hudson is also a very popular candidate, so I have to imagine it will fit in Paul's diesels.
Sorry Nick, one other question. I have Mikados and a Pacific plus the 0-6-0 B6 with no cruise. My Berkshires seem to work fine with their cruise. Is it very hard to install these in my steamers? My great weakness is wiring. Thanks very much. Don
Don;
The K-Line cruise kit is pretty easy to install.
has everything you need including a new motor with the tach reader assembly.

PS: I have a spare K-Line Allegheny cruise unit if anyone needs one. Email is in my profile.
Don this is from Electric Railroads web page
Simple Tach-Less installation and operation
High Frequency (20khz) PWM for silent drive
DC motor capability (6 Amps)
Operates in command and conventional modes
CAB-1tm selectable 32 or 100(default) speed steps
Serial data out for configuration acknowledgement
Directly drives LED's lighting without complex "load" resistor wiring
LED's lighting features include markers and oscillating ditch lamps
On-board micro-controller provides future enhancement capabilities
Uses R2LC (not included) to be fully compliant with TMCC standards
Only 1.95" L x 1.27" W x 1.0" H
The Cruise Commander M is touted for its easy installation. With the exception of one wire it really is just a bolt-in, and no tach readers to mess with. ERR provides a very thorough manual for the installation.
Thanks Nick, I'll try one. Don
Just remember, the Cruise M is for locos that already have a TMCC system. If you're looking to upgrade a conventional loco then you would need the full Cruise Commander.
Thanks, all my locos have TMCC. I looked at the instructions for Cruise M and it does look easy. Wish I had them done when we lived in the bay area. Don
That's a sweet looking Pacific!
