My son’s school opened an archiTECHture museum tonight in the gym. The premise was to highlight significant structures from around the world and showcase buildings of New York City that the children constructed. The basis was to create some interaction as done at Gullivers Gate in the city.

I was happy to assist with an NJ Transit set as the area is served by the Gladstone branch, as well as a Lonel TMCC crane and boom car. Kudos to Lionel for donating track and switches.

The kids (and some parents) had a ball running the train and using Legacy to operate the crane.

Consider when entertaining little kids with trains to get gery excited and silly.

That worked for me yesterday with my 4 and 9 year old granddaughters.

The 4 year old was the one most interested.

Both loved the giraffe cars with the giraffes ducking under the tell tale in a nick of time.

The horse car, cattle car and their corrals were also a big hit.

My layout is 48 to 50 inches above the floor. The 4 year old needs to stand on a couch or stool in order to see the trains. When she does so, she is at eye level with the trains, and cannot see over the train car to see the horses or cattle entering and leaving the train cars and corrals.

So, I did something silly. I turned the cars around so the cattle and horses would jump off the corral onto the track, instead of hopping onto the corral. I told my 4 year old granddaughter, very excitedly, that the horses and cows were crazy jumping onto the track. I also told my granddaughters that the cattle and horses need medication because they are manic, the way they are jumping around out of control in the corrals. When I said that, they both laughed.

Next came the milk car. Again, I turned the car around because the 4 year old wasn't tall enough to see over the car so she could see the milk cans landing on the platform when she was standing on the couch. Then, I had the 4 year old catch the milk cans in her hand then they were ejected from the car.

We had a grand time. Arnold
