A few fill ups with JT's Mega Steam Eliminator should remove a lot of the stink. A new wick and JT's Elim will clean it for sure. But, then, you'd have to find it a new name.

Ahhh, leave it the stinky engine.

we got the stinky engine, the sissy engine (can barely pull itself), the noisey engine, (got a bad motor bushing & sometimes squeals/screams) and the "Those are dads specials engines and we are not allowed to touch them" engines.

Keep the kids involved-

I don't think you can rebuild the smoke unit on these.  It is a one piece replacement, about $15.00.  On these engine you have to keep fluid in them or you will burn them up and they really do stink when this happens.
