Was exchanging trains this evening, and in my haste I put my RailKing Mohawk (PS3) down on a live track, shorting it out and tripping the brick's breaker. No movement, DCS or conventional. All other functions appear normal.

I put the tender from my P47 on the Mohawk and everything worked fine. Anyone have an idea which board (I'm assuming there's more than one) I fried in the Mohawk's tender?

OK, couldn't wait til tonight.

Nothing obvious on board, though I don't like the looks of some of the oxidation in some spots.

I hadn't run this in a while, and now I seem to remember it cutting out every now and then. Definitely a drawbar issue. If you can tell from the pic, it's not even close to being level- putting a lot of strain on the connections.

Had to be like this from day one- just never noticed it. Got it to run again- stopped shortly after. Tapped on drawbar and it started to run again.

Wonder if the tender connector can be shimmed down...

I clean off any flux contamination with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and an old tooth brush.  It's also how I clean flux off boards that I work on.

Since it's running, I'd say a new drawbar is probably a good investment.  There could be some bad solder joints on the existing one, have you examined it carefully?

I've seen others with similar alignment issues between units.

You most likely will not see any damage on the tender board.  You already know the engine works which means drawbar does too.  So taking more apart just means risking more pinched wires or damage.

The short tripped breaker and the spike may have damaged the tender board.  You can send me the tender board and I can test.  Can replace if bad.  E-mail in profile.  G
