Just a couple of minor additions/corrections. It was die cast, and came lettered for SP or undecorated. I never saw one lettered for UP but it's possible they made them that way too. The vast majority were SP; unlettered ones are hard to find. It's a nice looking tender. I never measured mine to see if it was scale or not. In any case it depends on what you are comparing it to; there were a couple of different sizes of Harriman Vanderbilt tenders. Mine is still sitting in a box somewhere as I don't currently have an engine that I want to use it with.
I had one, too. It was Southern Pacific - one of the first pieces with that roadname I have had. I could not find it just now but I will look again - it should be around somewhere. I don't know the model # or anything.
It was heavy, I agree, and nicely detailed. It did not look quite scale to me, I recall, but then I don't know for sure how big they were in real life. I do recall I really did not like the look that much: mine seemed to ride too high off the rails/have too much gap and air space underneath the tank.
Quick search on LiveAuctioneers shows this one, K-3540W:
Looks to be the same one used with this loco, which appears to be semi-scale:
I have one I repainted MOW Silver but never decaled. I used it as a tender for MTH UP crane.
The tether on the one in the photo would have been added by whoever set it up to run with the semi-scale Pacific.
I have one. Among the other features, it also has a lighted rear headlight. On mine, I removed the front draw-bar and replaced it with a coupler. I use mine as the oil/fuel tender for my rotary snow plow. The whistle sounds nice except that it cuts off when you release the whistle button. You can see my snow plow and tender running in the following video. Please note that the tender's whistle is not blown in the video. Also, if anyone is curious, I did paint the blades on the plow red.
I'm looking for a one of these tenders - does anyone have one for sale?
