Went to the TTOS SW meet this weekend looking for a couple of dollars worth of std gauge lock on's. Came home with this instead. Cost a bit more than the lock on's but way cooler.
The seller said it was Sakai/Seki, but I think it is most likely KTM. Anyone know? Came with the transformer and a box of track and switches.

Your surmise about the set being KTM is probably correct, Steve. For comparison, here is a web page of other KTM examples:

Yes, brass wheels with small flanges. Cast knuckle couplers are pretty small.
The axles are threaded and the wheels screw on. I have run it a bit on my 034 loop. One of the cars derails every time, the others once in a while. It is missing the drive spring so traction is an issue. Can only run 2 cars at a time.

BTW Steve, I checked my inventory of Marx milk cans and I don't have any originals. I have a few that look more like siege gun shells than milk cans, pointed at the top with a single groove just below the tip. The others were a bit larger and had the removable lids.
